The campy cult classic featuring angry birds attacking Half MoonBay, “Birdemic: Shock and Terror,” comes out on Blu-ray thisweek.
Loosely modeled on Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” the filmfollows a small group of survivors that tries to withstand aconvocation of mutant eagles that go berserk for reasons neverfully explained. Set on the Coastside, the film features manyfamiliar local sites, such as Cameron’s Restaurant and Inn, theCoastal Trail, and the Half Moon Bay Art & PumpkinFestival.
Derided by many as an unbelievably bad film, “Birdemic”nonetheless found surprising success through nationwide midnightfilm screenings last year. The new Blu-ray release includes deletedscenes, audio commentaries with the actors, and several other videofeatures.
“Birdemic” director, writer and producer James Nguyen, who madethe film on a $10,000 budget, is currently trying to raise fundsfor a sequel, “Birdemic II: The Resurrection 3D.”
Writing on his blog, Nguyen asked fans to help donate the$100,000 needed for the film. As of this week, he had raised$150.
